Saucy humour, cross-dressing, a sprinkle of magic and a cast of tenths of hundreds: it must be the LAL Torbay pantomime. Since 2008 I have been involved – one way or another – in all the pantomimes produced at the LAL Torbay language school in Paignton. A madcap collision of a very British theatre tradition with students from all over the world, what started out as a hastily pulled together idea eight years ago has somehow become a fixture in the school’s calendar.
We’ve performed eight pantomimes so far, from Cinderella in 2008 to Dick Whittington in 2015.
2015: Dick Whittington
Boy walks to London, boy meets girl, boy gets framed for theft by a giant rat, boy gets shipwecked in Paignton… all the usual panto fun. A 45-minute production with another tiny cast – but a really great bunch! Written by me again.
